Our Volunteers
It is a credit to you all how much we have achieved since the beginning and it was done almost entirely with the money you have raised over so many years.
Calcutta Rescue is proud of all its ex-volunteers around the world who have generously given their time, energy and skills to assist the charity in its work with the poorest of the poor.
Without them the charity would never have survived and ex-volunteers continue to play a vital role in raising funds for its work and helping shape its future.
In the early days they were mainly travellers who stumbled across Dr Jack working on the pavement in Middleton Road and, inspired by his example, stayed on to work at his side for a few weeks or months. Some went home and set up support groups in their own countries to raise money and assist other volunteers.
Later, when Dr Jack was able to pay Indian staff to run the projects, volunteers were restricted to those with specialist skills such as nurses, doctors and pharmacists.
They bring up-to-date, high-level expertise into the team and, by sharing their skills and experience, they ensure standards at the charity are among the best in India.
Over the years hundreds of volunteers have spent time working at the projects, and for many it is among their most intense and treasured experiences.
Calcutta Rescue recognises the huge contribution each volunteer has made, and would like to invite them all to reconnect with the charity, so they can keep up-to-date with what is going on and help us in our ongoing battle to lift people out of poverty.
