Dr. Arkajit Goswami, who has been with CR for just two months, said he found his calling the moment he read about the organisation online.
Upon asking how he learnt about Calcutta Rescue, the 27-year-old doctor said, “I found out about Calcutta Rescue in the newspaper and after researching a bit more I was fascinated.
“An awe set in as I found out more about Dr. Preger and the work done by him.”
Dr Arkajit has completed his doctor’s degree and medical internship and has worked in a cancer hospital as a pediatric oncologist. He is also pursuing an online MBA in Healthcare Administration.
Dr. Arkajit mainly works at Nimtala clinic. He treats a lot of patients with dangerous wounds. Along with that their lives and stories move him so much. “It feels great to see their wounds being treated and their smiles as they heal. If I had not come here, I would not have known just how vulnerable are the backgrounds that patients of CR have. “
The work also has its challenges. “Sometimes they speak different languages which I am not familiar with and sometimes they cry while talking about themselves and I don’t know how to console them. But I will not trade this for anything.”
Dr Arkajit is an avid reader and loves playing football in his free time.
Upon asking what he likes the most about his CR team he said, “Their teamwork! Nimtala Clinic has a solid team that can take up any challenges thrown at them. The work done by CR has covered comprehensive ground in humanitarian services and continues to expose untold realities on a day-to-day basis.”
