Calcutta Rescue students have just scored their best-ever results with 30 out of 31 candidates passing the Madhyamik (Year 10) exams, and 13 out of 14 passing the Year 12 exams.
The results are a tribute to the skill and huge dedication of CR’s head of education Ananya who has radically reworked the curriculum in recent years and to her team of teachers who have been taking part in a two-year training course organised by UK charity the Helga Todd Foundation.
Ananya said the results are particularly impressive because, not only was it the biggest number of CR students ever to take the Madhyamik exams but they had less than a year to prepare them for it because of the impact of the Covid pandemic.
She said:”I personally was very worried about this batch.
Jaydeep and I sat with these students several times to guide them, and to motivate them so that they put in their best. Mock tests were conducted by the teachers as per the board syllabus under my supervision. Several stress-busting sessions were conducted by Suchandra and Souvik before they wrote their final examinations.
I am happy for my team and the students that their hard work yielded a positive outcome.”
Leading the pack at the senior exams was Manisha Kumari Singh with an outstanding score of 84.4%. (her story was covered by The Telegraph).
Manisha said, “”I came to Calcutta Rescue when I was very young. From the moment I knew about books, I have always loved studying. My father died in 2015 and we were heartbroken. I did not know how to continue my studies but Calcutta rescue helped. I could not believe my eyes when I saw the marksheet. My family is over the moon. All the teachers are so helpful, I could not have done this without their help. My best memory is being able to study in CR school and meet my teachers and my friends. In future, I want to have a government job to make my family’s future secure.”
Ananya said she was “absolutely ecstatic” about the Year 12 results, and delighted that CR’s humanities and commerce students had done exceptionally well.
