An Update of the Calcutta Rescue Education Projects

Hello,

I am Ananya Chatterjee, the head of the education project at Calcutta Rescue.

The brutal Second Wave is receding and we are waiting for the third wave. We don’t know what the third wave will bring but we are ready  to tackle the wave. Here is a small update of what was going on and what we are planning to do in near future.

Online classes will go on – Teachers, students, parents, counselors all got used to with the online classes. In fact, we are getting more attendance in online classes then we ever had in physical classrooms.
Online parent teacher meetings are a success – We are able to connect with more and more parents through online parent-teacher meetings. We notify them beforehand. It has become easier for them to join the meetings from their homes. It’s less time consuming. They can listen to the meetings while working. They are now very attentive of the children’s hygiene, mental health, vocational trainings etc, They encourage their children to attend career counselling classes.

Students are more active in online special activity classes – Calcutta Rescue education projects collaborate with other NGOs and corporate houses where the students attend recreational programs and they enjoy them.

Our efforts are successful as from April 2020 to June 2021, there is no dropout children.

Some students have left the city and resides in their village, mainly to be safe from Covid-19. They are regular in our online classes and we are also sending them dry rations, immunity boosting kits and hygiene packs. They are very happy.

All the credits go to CR’s hard working teachers. They are now digitally upgraded. Some of the teachers now have their own Youtube videos to teach the children.

We are planning to resume the Education on Wheels project 26th July onwards. Almost all of our education project staff are now vaccinated.
