Their performanceswere recorded in the Annual Status of Education Report or ASER by PRATHAM.&nbsp;<\/p><p>In grades 1 and 2 tests for ability to read class level materials, Calcutta Rescue students scored 76-92% versus a national average of 24-30%, and in arithmetic, they scored 70-81% versus a national average of 48-55%. In grades 3 to 5 reading ability tests, the student performance improved from 49% in 2019 to 63% in 2020, but in arithmetic tests, the performance deteriorated from 92% to 77%.&nbsp;<\/p><p>The test results indicate what we are striving for \u2013 getting ahead in their learning curve and it should eventually result in more confidence and increased enjoyment of studies, which in turn should reduce dropouts and promote higher level studies<\/p><p>In higher level classes, we now have 52 students in grades 11 and 12, and for college education, we are providing tuition fees to 21 students. In previous years, our students have gone for higher studies in colleges in the fields of engineering, accounting, Hindi, history, political science and arts.&nbsp;<\/p><p>All the Calcutta Rescue students come from slums, and our mission is to provide them with opportunities so that they can transform their lives as well as their families\u2019. Our constant encouragements to students to excel and pursue higher level education are yielding results. The successes of older students become an inspiration for younger ones. Their successes validate our belief that given the right support, the youngsters, even from the poorest families, can use their talents and devotions and can achieve amazing things.
