Lilian Teunissen and Henk Loos, who had been dedicated supporters of Calcutta Rescue for over 25 years, were honored with knights of the Order of Oranje Nassau by the King of the Netherlands on May 16, 2020. Congratulations poured in from all over the world, not only from Calcutta Rescue\u2019s supporters and volunteers, but also from those who had known Lilian and Henk\u2019s relentless services to Kokata\u2019s poorest.<\/p>

Calcutta Rescue\u2019s chief executive, Jaydeep Chakraborty, described Lilian as a courageous person who has dedicated much of her life to those who are less fortunate than herself.He said that \u201cHenk\u2019s compassion, empathy and love for mankind made him worthy of this royal award.Congratulations to Henk and Lilian! Thank you for all you have done and thank you to all our supporters around the world.\u201d<\/p>

Lilian, who is an A&E nurse, said the news came as a complete surprise.to her. She said: \u201cI was at work and was suddenly asked to go outside and a film crew was waiting for me. I was so amazed! And very happy. Such an honor.\u201d<\/p>

Because of the coronavirus, the award ceremonies are not expected to take place until later in the year.The chairman of Calcutta Rescue\u2019s Dutch support group, Jeroen van BastenBatenburg, was also given the same award a decade ago for his unfaltering services to Kolkata\u2019s poor.<\/span><\/p>
