Anguri Begum, a 42-year-old resident of Tangra Slum, lives with her three daughters at her parental home. Her husband does not provide financial or other support to her or their children. As a result, Anguri carries the responsibility of earning a living, running the household and raising her daughters. Missing even a day of work can affect the family’s daily needs.<\/p>\n

Anguri has been living with diabetes and a thyroid disorder. Although she needed regular medical follow-up and medication, frequent hospital visits were difficult for her. Going to hospital often meant taking time off work, waiting for long hours and losing income. This made it difficult for her to collect medicines and continue treatment regularly.<\/p>\n

During a door-to-door visit, a Calcutta Rescue community worker learned about Anguri’s health problems and the barriers she was facing in accessing regular care. She was counselled and encouraged to visit Calcutta Rescue’s Tangra Clinic for treatment and follow-up.<\/p>\n

When Anguri first came to the clinic, her fasting blood glucose level was around 300 mg\/dL, indicating poorly controlled diabetes. She also had limited guidance about appropriate food choices and daily practices that could help her manage the condition.<\/p>\n

At Tangra Clinic, she was examined by the doctor and provided with the necessary medicines for her diabetes and thyroid condition. Along with medication, the team counselled her on regular treatment, appropriate food habits, lifestyle practices and the importance of follow-up. The advice was practical and designed to fit her everyday circumstances.<\/p>\n

Anguri followed the guidance carefully and began attending Tangra Clinic every month for consultation, medicines and follow-up. After several months of regular treatment and dietary management, a repeat blood test showed a significant improvement: her fasting blood glucose had reduced from around 300 mg\/dL to 110 mg\/dL.<\/p>\n

The improvement brought Anguri great relief and happiness. She feels much better now and continues to visit Tangra Clinic regularly while working and caring for her daughters.<\/p>\n
