60 years old Calcutta Rescue patient Niranjan Das cannot walk without support. So when a series of gas cylinders exploded causing an enormous fire on 13 January, it was difficult for him to run out of the slum where he lived. With the help of fellow residents, he survived. But his ramshackle abode is ashes and he has lost all his worldly possessions.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

On 13 January evening,\u00a0 Bagbazaar slum area was burning to cinders. Calcutta Rescue has students and patients residing in the area. Calcutta Rescue took immediate steps in helping the affected CR patients and students.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

“Our students were terrified. Our teachers were constantly in touch with them through phone.” said Ananya Chatterjee, Calcutta Rescue head of Education.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Calcutta Rescue Street medicine head Debu went to the affected area to deliver the items to the families. successfully distributed medicines, dry ration, utensils, buckets and sanitary items, clothing and winter garments to the affected CR patients and students families in the Bagbazar bustee.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Debu said, “Currently they’ve taken shelter in the nearby women’s college building. The families are very happy to receive the items.” Chief Minister has declared before that the government will restore all of their houses. CR Street medicine and school team are in contact with the patients and students families constantly. “We told them to call us anytime they need anything. We’ll be there immediately with help.” Debu mentioned.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
