Farida Bibi
Age: 22 years
Support: Regular check-ups, medicines, counselling and follow-up
Outcome: Safe delivery of a healthy baby girl
Farida first came to Calcutta Rescue to register for a patient card so that she could receive regular check-ups and necessary medicines during her pregnancy
A pregnancy overshadowed by loss
During Farida’s initial visit, the healthcare team noticed that she appeared unusually quiet, worried and emotionally distressed. When staff spoke with her, they learned that her previous baby had died just 29 days after birth. The painful loss had left a deep emotional impact on her, and she was frightened that the same thing might happen again.
Counselling, reassurance and continuity of care
The Calcutta Rescue team responded with regular counselling, reassurance and emotional support. Doctors, nurses and other staff encouraged Farida to remain hopeful while carefully following medical advice. She was guided to take her medicines regularly, attend scheduled hospital appointments and Calcutta Rescue follow-ups, maintain appropriate nutrition and follow the precautions needed to protect her own health and that of her unborn baby.
With continued support, Farida gradually regained confidence. She followed the advice given to her and remained regular with her check-ups and treatment. The consistent guidance helped reduce the fear linked to her previous loss and enabled her to move through the pregnancy with greater confidence.
Baby
Farida eventually delivered a healthy baby girl, who continues to do well. For Farida, the safe delivery was not only a joyful outcome but also a powerful change from the fear and uncertainty with which she had entered the programme.
| “After losing my first baby, I was very scared that I might lose this baby too. The doctors, nurses and staff of Calcutta Rescue gave me courage and helped me believe that things could be different this time. Their guidance helped me take care of myself and my baby. Today, my baby girl is healthy, and I am very grateful to Calcutta Rescue.”
