Around 14 districts in West Bengal suffer from high levels of arsenic in the ground water....
Calcutta Rescue’s weaving program is currently at Tamuldah in South 24 Parganas, a rural district with high unemployment and very little job opportunities, and at Shantipur with a cluster of women weavers.
These centers weave yarn to produce jute mix, poplin, linen, cotton and other varieties of cloth. These fabrics are used by the Handicrafts workshop for making clothes for our patients and school children as well as for the production of most of the handicraft items. Linen, cotton and scarves are gaining wide acceptance in the markets. The objective of these projects is to make them self-sustainable.
